Traveling By Air

Bilbao Airport is a public airport located 9 km north of Bilbao, in the municipality of Loiu, in Biscay. It is the largest airport in northern Spain and offers connections to major European cities and the main cities in Spain.

To & From the Airport
A 20-minute journey through the Artxanda tunnels or along the BI-631 road separates the airport from the centre of Bilbao. You can travel by public transport or taxi.
The Bizkaibus Line (A3247 Bilbao-Airport) connects the Bilbao Termibus with the airport. The bus stops in Gran Vía 79, Plaza Moyua and Alameda Recalde 11.
From Bilbao, buses leave every 15 minutes from 05:15 to 22:00; from the airport, every 15 minutes, from 06:15 to 00:00.
On the arrivals floor, there is a customer services desk and ticket office. The bus leaves at both the departure and arrivals level. A single ticket costs €3.
Taxis are run by the Asociación Auto Taxis Femade and can be found in the Arrivals area every day. Booking in advance is optional, via phone (+34 944 800 909) or the online booking form.
Tariffs are set, a ride to Bilbao will cost approximately €24-€29.
Traveling By Rail
A network of railway lines converges in Bilbao.
The gateway to Bilbao by train is Abando station (Plaza Circular, 2), where the Spanish national railway network (Red Nacional de Ferrocarriles Españoles – RENFE) provides long-distance connections.
Getting Around Bilbao
Public Transportation
Bilbao has an extensive network of public transportation options, including a metro, buses, trams and a cable railway (funicular).
Each operator has their own fares and ticket prices.
Participants of ESRA 2019 will be entitled to free tram rides in Bilbao during the Congress by showing their badges.
The Barik card allows you to use most of the different public transport systems in the Historical Territory with one ticket.
Another option is the Bilbao card, which allows you to get around Bilbao and gives access to a wide range of discounts on tourist services.
Taxis
All taxis show their status as a public service (SP plate).
Prices depend on an official fare rate, the amount payable is shown on the meter and any supplement must be explained to passengers.
